8/25/09 Taneycomo Fishing Report

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Best fly patterns for the week: Varied generation this past week has made a phone call necessary before heading down. Once there scuds, bit scuds, sow bugs and g-bugs have all been very effective in plum, ginger and olive.

Best spinning tackle: With generation the bite is great, little cleos, super dupers and panther martin spinners are all effective with heavy current. When the current Is off night crawlers and gulp eggs are your best bet.

8/26/09 Table Rock Fishing Report

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Kimberling City Area: Things have changed over the past week or so and fish are on the move. Smallmouth and largemouth have moved shallow and can be caught on pea gravel and rocky points on the main lake. Look for fish to be as shallow as 2’’ deep early and move out to 10’ – 12’ once the sun comes up. Jewel football and Pro Spider jigs have been very effective, as have green pumpkin 3 ½” tubes. Throw the bait to the bank and work them slowly along the bottom. There is also a short lived topwater bite every morning, look for fish to be on the same points chasing shad, cast spooks, sammys and pop-r’s to schooling fish. The deep bite has not gone away, fish can still be caught on tree tops and gravel points through out the mid lake.

James River: The river bite continues to be strong with a few patterns taking center stage; Football jigs and Carolina rigs fished on main lake points, jigs flipped on bluffs and steeper banks and shallow crankbaits in the backs of creeks have been the top patterns. Look for main lake pea gravel and mixed gravel and rock points and cast Jewel football jigs in brown / purple flash or PB&J with J-tail trailers or Carolina rigged baby brush hogs or lizards to 6’ – 12’ of water. Work the bait slowly along the bottom to draw strikes. On main lake bluff and creek channel swings pitch Eakins jigs and craw combos toward the bank and work it from the bank back to the channel. Pay close attention to the bait as it falls from ledge to ledge. Finally, flat areas in the backs of creeks are holding shad and in turn fish, throw Lucky Craft RC 1.5 and 2.5 crankbaits to every piece of cover in the creek.

White River: The White continues to be the best area of the lake for both numbers and quality fish. From the Baxter area to Shell Knob three patterns have emerged; Jewel football and spider jigs on flat points, drop shots and spoons in deep water and shallow crankbaits and spinnerbaits on flat banks. Look for the flattest points you can find and throw Jewel football and Spider jigs with J tail trailers from 6’-12’ deep. Drop shots and spoons are working on gravel points and roll offs from 25’ – 35’ deep, the fish will be located on the bottom or suspended just above the bottom. Finally, toward the backs of creek and on shallow points spinnerbaits and shallow crankbaits have been effective on windy and cloudy days. Further up the White River the same patterns are effective but add flipping and pitching Eakins jigs and Ultra tubes to shallow cover on channel swing banks.

Dam Area: Smallmouth have made a huge move over the past week, numbers and quality fish have moved up to 3’ – 12’ deep on shallow points all over the lower end of the lake. Jewel spider jigs in green pumpkin / green flash or PB&J or 3 1/2 “ green pumpkin tubes have been very effective on these fish. Start as shallow as 3’ deep in the morning and work out to 12’ or even 15’ as the sun rises. The deep bite continues to produce good numbers and quality spotted bass through out the lower end. Most of the fish are on pea gravel main lake and secondary points from 25’ – 35’ deep, while most of the fish will be on or near the bottom occasionally you will find a school of fish higher in the water column feeding on shad.

8/9/09 Taneycomo Fishing Report

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Best fly patterns for the week: Light generation through out the week has meant some outstanding fishing. Scuds, soft shells and sow bugs have been the ticket in natural colors; grey, ginger and black, smaller sizes have been better #20’s and #22’s.

Best spinning tackle: Without generation the best bite has been on Gulp eggs and live night crawlers. Work the deeper channel areas where shade is present. Dead heads, boat docks and laydowns will all hold fish throughout the day.

8/8/09 Table Rock Fishing Report

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Kimberling City Area: While the deep bite is still very strong in the mid lake using drop shots and spoons, the rising water has moved many fish shallow. Jewel Football and Pro Spider jigs in PB& J with J tail grubs have been the bait of choice to target smallmouth 8’ – 15’deep. Most of these fish have been on pea gravel / rock mixed points and have been sallower in the morning and deeper as the sun rises. Chompers and Robo Worm drop shot worms are still effective on spotted bass over deep trees, and around bridge pilings, look for these fish to be holding 30’ – 35’ deep over tree tops in as much as 120’ of water. Several largemouth have been caught in and around boat docks this past week, up shallow use an Eakins Jig and craw combo once you get deeper than 30’ a ¾ oz. White Spoon is the best choice. Much like the rest of the lake white bass have been schooling through the morning hours, you can’t miss them, throw spoons and grubs into the schooling fish and hang on.

James River: The James has been tougher than usual this past week, the cooler water has stalled the deep crankbait bite in the upper James but there is still a decent bite from Aunts to around Buzzard Branch. Fat Free shad and DD 22’s in citrus shad and lavender shad have been the best baits on roll offs and ledges on or near the main lake. Jewel football jigs in brown / purple flash and Carolina rigged lizards or baby brush hogs have been effective on pea gravel and mixed gravel and rock main lake points from campers point to above the Cape Fair Bridge. Most of the fish are coming from 12’ – 25’ deep close to deeper water.

White River: The White River has been awesome; the Corps has been lowering Beaver to work on the dam so there is current, cool water and high water from around Eagle Rock to Beaver town. Several good largemouths have been caught in this area over the past week, Eakins jigs, Chompers Ultra Tubes and Salty Sinkers have all been catching fish around flood brush and laydowns on the bank out to 10’ deep. As long as the Corps continues to lower Beaver this pattern will be good. Further down stream there has been a decent topwater bite early and on bluff ends and deep points with timber, look for surfacing fish and shad to locate fish. As the day wears on a Jewel Football jig has been hard to beat, PB&J and green pumpkin / green flash with green pumpkin J tail grubs have been productive from Big M to Campbell point. Pea gravel and mixed gravel and rock points have been the most productive from 12’ – 15’ deep. The Baxter area has had a good drop shot bite in around deep trees, Chompers and Robo Worms in plum and Aaron’s magic have been the best colors. There is also a good football jig bite around the Baxter area, just like upstream points with a mix of rock and gravel have been the best locations.

Dam Area: The deep bite continues to be the number one pattern on the lower end. Deep trees and drop shots have been the ticket, look for trees on points, bluff ends and swings. The trees should top out around 30’ – 45’ deep regardless of the overall depth. Look for fish to be holding above the trees and in the tops of trees and drop Chompers plum or brown / purple worms in front of fish to be productive. Much like the rest of the lake there have been white bass schooling throughout the lower end, spoons and grubs fished around the schooling fish will draw strikes. Further up Long Creek there is a good shallow bite developing on flats from the Arkansas line to above Cricket Creek. Lucky Craft RC 1.5 and 2.5 in chartreuse shad have worked around brush and laydowns, Texas rigged worms and brush hogs will also wrk in these areas.
